National Police Cadet Corp (NPCC) has been affiliated with the Singapore Police Force for over 2 decades with many programmes that disseminate crime prevention knowledge and skills. Many youths have become responsible adults and civic conscious citizens through these comprehensive programmes.
Community Safety & Security Programme (CSSP)
- Joint action programme drawn up and implemented by grassroot leaders, residents and the Home Team
- Tackle community issues affecting the Safety & Security of the neighborhood,
- Proactive approach to address the safety and security concerns of the local community.
Police Youth Ambassador (PYA)
- NPC youths are to be developed as Police Youth Ambassador (PYA) and as role models assisting in spreading crime prevention messages in the community,
- To identify and craft out projects for implementation in their community,
- Should be able to actively engage the community and develop practical strategies to resolve community crime and security issues and in the process raise their people within the community.
National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC)
In-collaboration with National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), Crime Prevention Corners (CPC) will be set up in secondary schools at possible areas like library, activity corner or near canteen where there's a high traffic of students.
Objectives
- - To bring Crime Prevention Education closer to students as part of NCPC's on-going youth outreach activities,
- - To provide a mini education hub that is conducive for the general viewing and interaction amongst students, school staffs and NPCC unit.
- - Allowing schools to be more exposed to Crime Prevention messaging in the most hassle free manner,
- - To achieve effective outreach to student population through these corners made possible by the multi partnership approach to Crime Prevention Education. (Schools, NPCs, NPCC and NCPC).
NPCC Service Day
1) The NPCC Service Day is an annual event where NPCC cadets were deployed to perform community services. The past service days revolved around fund raising activities for reputable local charitable organization.
2) In 2004, NPCC saw the need for closer collaboration with the Singapore Police Force in promoting crime prevention to the community. As crime prevention knowledge is also the core training component received by NPCC cadets in law enforcement education, an opportunity where cadets could articulate their knowledge on crime prevention could promote an active learning environment, vis-a-vis simply classroom sessions. The change in the objective led to the association and linkage of the NPCC Service Day with the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) since 2004.
3) Mar 2007 saw the launch of the revamped NPCC Service Day where close to 15,000 NPCC cadets from Secondary One to Secondary Four and Five walked the housing areas around their schools to share with the residents, crime prevention, traffic safety and homefront security messages. A team of 4 cadets, each armed with a crime prevention handbook (sponsored by NCPC) reached out to the community in crime prevention. NPCC Service Days with similar concept were also held in 2005 and 2006.
4) NPCC and NCPC had received positive feedback on the revamped NPCC Service Day. Nevertheless, with evolving educational landscape, it is possibly timely to further explore other services that NPCC can provide to the community (larger).
Objectives
- To create an active learning environment for NPCC cadets to serve the community.
- To provide service to the environment they live in.
